A person suffering from acne knows how
difficult it is to treat the condition. This is because
as there are so many triggers and causes of acne, there
is no fixed solution for treating acne. Some people recover
from acne attacks using home treatments, some with over
the counter medications and some, with the help of antibiotics.
If you re looking for home treatment just
make sure to keep the acne prone areas clean at all times
by washing them twice a day using unperformed cleansers.
You could also use antibacterial face washes or soaps meant
for greasy skin. However, as the skin needs some oil for
maintaining its natural condition, don’t wash excessively
using strong soaps.
Home treatment options
No point in picking at pimples as pimple
squeezing only leads to scarring. Apply ripe tomato pulp
to the acne region and wash after an hour for relief from
acne. Grated potato works as a great poultice to treat acne,
blackheads, pimples and whiteheads.
Whatever home treatment option you choose
to use to treat your acne problem, remember that home treatments
don’t work immediately. You have to wait for weeks, and
perhaps months before you find any significant effects.
Over the counter medication
There are many over the counter medications
available for treating mild cases of acne. You could try
lotions with benzoyl peroxide for treating your acne problem
as it dries the skin, and encourages shedding of the surface
layer of dead skin. Moreover, it has an antibacterial action
that makes it difficult for pores to get blocked, and thus
an infection to develop.
Although you may experience some redness
and peeling after using benzoyl peroxide, it will settle
down after some time. Nevertheless, before you buy any over
the counter medications, it is better to ensure that there
are no ingredients in the acne treatment product that you
are allergic to. This prevents any complications that may
arise due to these ingredients.
Skin creams, tablets or antibiotics
If you approach your GP or a dermatologist
for treating your acne problem, you will be first prescribed
preparations having benzoyl peroxide. However, in some cases
this will not be sufficient. Sometimes you will need some
additional medication such as an antibiotic or cream to
help treat your acne condition.
All these treatment options are not sufficient
for freedom from acne. You also have to maintain a healthy
lifestyle with a regular exercise routine as this helps
make your body skin healthier and rid toxins at the same
time.
Healthy lifestyle
Cut down on alcohol, and preferably stop
smoking to control acne. Replace processed foods with healthy
and fiber rich foods like fruits, vegetables, cereals and
whole grains which can all help clean your digestive tract
and eliminate body toxins.
Too much sugar, tea, coffee, refined foods,
fried food, microwave food, drugs and animal food all lead
to an increase of toxins in the body, and thus increased
occurrences of acne.
All in all it can be said that there is
no one complete treatment option for acne; you need a combination
of a healthy diet, exercise, home remedies and over the
counter medications. Dermatologists are sought for acne
treatment only in extreme cases of acne.
