Dealing with acne is a huge pain. In addition
to being unsightly and possibly hurting, you may spend a
lot of money on different acne treatments and creams that
all claim to work miracles but often don’t work at all.
However, there are some homemade acne masks that many swear
by. If you’re tired of trying different creams, you might
want to give one of these a try. Of course, not everyone’s
skin is the same, so you may need to try two or three of
these masks before you find one that works for you.
The first is a baking soda acne mask. All
you need is some baking soda (note the “soda” part - do
not use baking powder) and some water. First, wash your
face with a mild facial cleanser. Then mix some baking soda
and water together and gently daub it on your skin. After
coating your face with this mixture, let it set for fifteen
minutes or so. After that, rinse it off and see if your
face feels cleaner and softer. If it does, use this homemade
acne mask several times a week to combat acne.
Another homemade acne mask is done using
egg whites. Many people have found this type of mask to
be both helpful and cheap. All you need are a few eggs.
Just separate the yolks from the egg whites, whip the whites,
and then, after washing your hands and face, apply the whites
to your face. Let it set for about 20 minutes before washing
it off. Note that if you have any allergic reactions to
eggs at all do not use this acne mask!
Wondering what to do with those egg yolks?
Well, you could eat them, or you could use them as another
type of homemade acne mask. Egg yolks are rich in vitamin
A, a vitamin that can help reduce scarring. Just like the
egg whites mask, all you need to do is separate the yolks,
scramble them, and apply them to your face for 20 minutes.
Just be sure you don’t eat the uncooked egg yolks - there
is some possibility of catching salmonella from consuming
raw eggs. Again, those with egg allergies should pass on
this one.
Another easy homemade acne mask is made
with simply oatmeal. Just mix it with some water and spread
it over your face. Wash it off after it dries, which is
usually in about fifteen minutes.
If you’re up for a homemade acne mask that’s
a bit more complicated, try this one. Take 2 or 3 teaspoons
of dried basil leaves and steep them in a cup of boiling
water for around 20 minutes. Wait for them to cool, and
then use a cotton ball to apply the water to your face.
There’s nothing to really wash off here, so simply daub
as much of the liquid on your face as you’d like.
Another treatment that’s supposed to help
remove blackheads involves taking a half cup of fuller’s
earth, some distilled witch hazel, and a teaspoon of tincture
of benzoin. Stir all three together and apply the mixture
to your face. Leave it on for thirty to forty minutes -
enough time for it to harden. After that, take a towel soaked
in warm water and put it over your face. As the mask softens,
use the towel to gently wipe it up. Then wash off the remaining
mask with warm water.
